You need an authorization code to transfer .org domain names. In my first request to Homestead support I asked that they unlock the domain and supply the authorization code. They unlocked the domain, but apparently didn’t read far enough to get to the second request (and didn’t know that you need an auth code for a .org transfer). Anyway, to make a long story short, a week and a half, and 4 or 5 dropped balls later the site’s up!
I’d like to say that’s horrible service from a Web hosting company, but it’s actually not bad. Compared to Web hosting companies who outsource their support to call centers in India it’s actually pretty good. The problem was resolved without having to talk to a person who doesn’t understand what you’re saying, but is trying to pick the most appropriate parts of the script to read to you based on the words you are using. That can take hours and doesn’t always end in a happy resolution. End rant.
