Grand Funk Railroad was one of the most popular super-groups back in 70s in USSR along with ELP, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. I remember that to be seriously considered as a guitar player you had to play some GFR stuff. It was a cult group. I live not far of Pleasanton and was at new Grand Funk concert at Almeda County fair. It is not the original GFR line-up since Grand Funk lead guitarist, front man and vocalist Mark Farner left band after short lived reunion in the end of 90s. Without Mark it is not the same band and is not as good as used to be.

I am webmaster of Russian GFR site http://gfr.kirdonia.com. I invite you to visit my site. Among other thing you can find there GFR CDs issued in Russia (not quite legal of course), almost all articles about Grand Funk published in Russian magazines (you have to read Russian though), my personal account about meeting Grand Funk and lot of other stuff.
