1&1 Internet Complaints

After almost a month and over a dozen emails to support and billing, my recent hosting problem was finally resolved. No fanfare, or even an email letting me know that it had been taken care of. I just went to one of my problem sites, and no more errors.

Two days before that, I received this email from complaints@1and1.com:

Thank you for contacting us.

As a gesture of goodwill, I have refunded the account regarding this
matter.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

That’s great, however the statement “I have refunded the account” is not true, because I haven’t received a refund. We’ll see if they follow through, or even return my email inquiry.

The point of this post, though, is to share the email address complaints@1and1.com. I wasn’t aware of it until now. If I had been, I’m sure I’d already be blacklisted.

Please advise.

    Thank you….D Wells

That http://www.1and1classaction.com/index.html?p=1 link does not allow you to submit the form, yet allows you to fill in personal data. Who, exactly is sponsoring that form? Is it 1 and 1 themselves in order to keep a real suit from moving forward???

Until there is more disclosure, file complaints at both the PA Attorney Generals office at: http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/consumers.aspx?id=451; and at the Better Business Bureau, at https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started.

Then take a look at the BBB’s rating they give 1&1, a B! My Question, how can they give a company with 806 closed complaints a B rating?

Please file the complaints, as I will be contacting the local DC media regarding the BBB’s rating of them, will make a good investigative journalism piece.

The PA’s Office Of Attorney General will respond before the BBB, but hang in there as the BBB will have some explaining to do.

ALL THAT EVIL NEEDS TO PROSPER, IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING…..

You can share your experiences AND fill out the complaints….you can do both, but the only thing that will take a boot to their *ss will be the complaints. In fact, do file the complaint first, then copy and paste it here. (after removing any personal info of course) or companies like this will continue to thrive.

AVOID 1 AND 1 AT ALL COSTS. I was an advocate for them for years, and then they started billing a week in advance last year (among other problems). I cleared out my account prior to the billing cycle date. Contacted them to close account. They referred me to a cancel web page which required a credit card. Didn’t make sense to me. After emails and phone calls I come to find out they escalated to a collection agency 2 months there after. 1and1 advised that I need to pay for a service, yet I had NO ACCESS to my service there after. Now I’m paying for 3 months, and a service fee and a collection agency fee totaling $67.92 for a service I never had access to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AVOID 1 AND 1 AT ALL COSTS. They are extremely hard to work with, you talk with agents overseas with accents you can’t understand in the technical department, and their tools and shared hosting ARE HORRIBLE. Again, AVOID 1 AND 1 AT ALL COSTS.

I hate 1&1. I’ve been with them since their early days back in 2003. But I left them. Now, I want to sue them; And, I wish them to go bankrupt.

I think I ave been a good customer. I have purchased 40 domains through them most costing $28 per year), and I have contracted a shared hosting business package for a little more than $10 per month. This allows the use of an unlimited number of domains + 250 subdomains + unlimited storage space and traffic. Cheap, I must say! But, I found out that it is not what you get. All had been working nicely between us until my websites were all shut down. No warning, no email before or after, nothing!

On the average, I check my websites once a week. Gladfully, I caught this one immediately. So, I emailed to 1&1 Tech support. They answered that I should contact their abuse team. So, I emailed again to abuse team. At this point, my websites have been down for over 24 hours. And I get no answer from “abuse” for another 48 hours. At this point, I don’t have the slightest idea as to why my websites are down.

My email to 1&1 : “Following my enquiry at 1&1 tech support, I turn to you to find out why my websites are down !”

So, I call their customer support. The friendly guy on the phone realizes the problem. My websites are being redirected to IP 127.0.0.1. Within 5 minutes, my websites are back running normally. This should have been the end of the story. I thought to myself: “Fine”, mistake is human and I have known those guies for quite a while. I Forgive but not forget that they have shut down my websites not warning me; And, this could have lasted for days and weeks.

When it’s all over, I finally receive their “Abuse Team” answer:

Their email: “Recently we have noticed that your web site(s) is overloading the web server because it was using too many shared server resources (cpu/memory usage). We now request that you consider purchasing a Managed or other Dedicated Server in order to continue hosting with 1&1 Internet. The decision to lock your account was made by the system administrators in order to improve the quality of service for the rest of our clients on the shared server from which you are hosted. The resource usage of your account threatened the ability of that server to capably operate as as a shared host, so it was required that your account be locked in order to mitigate server load. Though we could unlock your site, it is not recommended. Please visit 1and1.com to review the server products we offer. You will have one (1) month to make a decision and migrate your account over to a 1&1 server or another host provider. You can choose to return your account back to the previous state (unlocked), provided that you take steps to reduce resource usage of your account. If the account has to be locked again you will only have the option of purchasing a dedicated server account to continue hosting with 1&1 Internet.”

As it turns out, this is untrue and I am completely innocent of anything. My websites have lost about 65% of traffic since the August 2011 Google Panda update, down to about 1500 unique visitors per day (Alexa + Google Analytics data). I have not used so little CPU and memory of their shared server since year 2006. And my disk usage is below 2Gb. All my PHP programs are well optimized. And, I don’t use chat or streaming. The only real problem is that they are abusively trying to impose an upgrade on me.

My answer: “I have been sending emails to your sales department for days to be able to upgrade to a virtual dedicated server. They have never answered. Following your threat and recent move to take my websites off the internet, I can no longer stay with 1&1. I will thus never purchase anything from you and transfer my 40 domains away from you. You have illegally shut down my websites severly damaging my business.

Their answer: “We can lock your site at any time if it creates a problem for other users in shared hosting. You have been moved to an auxilliary server in the past
because of the load you caused. We are now asking you to either move to a dedicated server or find a new host”

No trial, just an arbitrary decision, without the least bit of an attempt to justify it! As they mentioned in this email, it is true that it is the second time they pull this one on me. However, the previous time they had warned and emailed me.

    WHAT I BELIEVE REALLY HAPPENED:

Just before all this, I was in contact with Tech Support to get a problem solved. I could no longer access my PhpMyAdmin. And, we had been trying to solve it for weeks. As you probably know, PhpMyAdmin is typically hosted on a local host IP 127.0.0.1. It is easy to see that they must have tried something to fix the data base issue and got it wrong – just a technical problem.

Email to Tech on Jan 28 2012, Just 2 days before they redirect my websites to their localhost (IP 127.0.0.1): “Following up on the problem discussed and attached below, I enclose 2 screen maps as you required…”

Instead of admitting their mistake, they pretended it was an abuse issue. From there, the abuse department, which really is a “push sales” department, completely messed it up… And, what is so ludicrousl about their attitude, is that I was truthfully looking for a dedicated server from 1&1. My decision was made. But the Sales Support never, ever, answered a single one of my 7 emails. I only had a few very simple transfer issues that required an answer before I could proceed.

I left 1&1. I am now on a dedicated server at Hostgator and finalizing migration. And, I don’t regret it.

STAY AWAY FROM 1&1: Their service has never been worse. They don’t live up to their promises. They will go bankrupt shortly like LYCOS did just a few years ago.

Layman info: 1500 visitors per day is not a lot by shared hosting standards.

I may have guessed 1 reason for 1&1 to allege some fabulous resource usage : The statistics they provide on the account control panel.

Google Analytics and Alexa see 1500 visitors, but 1&1 counts 30 000, not including robots! This may be a honest mistake. But, it’s been going on for years; So, it’s probably voluntary. Showing more visitors gives 1&1 customers the illusion of success. And, it gives 1&1 some arguments to push sales on medium size websites like mine.

Alexa ranks my major website Jeux gratuits a telecharger at position 1 000 001 (1 million) on the Web. All my other 40 websites receive a neglectable traffic. 1&1 sells, in my humble opinion, deceit.

I also inquired to know who was sharing my server. There are dozens of websites there. One of them generates over 30 000 visitors per day by Alexa measure. This corresponds to 180 000 visitors as measured by 1&1. No wonder they have a CPU problem.

Cheers from Download free games. And remember DO NOT HOST at 1&1.

1&1 internet sold me 2 domain names and offered 6 months of “free hosting” then customer service refused to let me cancel the first time then lied to me the second time telling me I had another 4 months free.
Now they have locked my account and are hold my business domain names hostage. They have cost me lots of business and still are costing me money to this day.
and on top of everything else they sent my account to collections

I started on the free trial and it seemed to be great. But i had several issues with
Editing and customizing my website. It just didn’t look like the samples at all no matter how hard i tried to get it similar. I requested to speak with the design team
within the first few days of me having the free trial and no one ever contacted me. I called and left a request with a 1&1 representative and I also emailed and called the design team and left a message. It wasn’t until about 4 days ago that someone contacted me by email. In the mean time I was browsing your website examples because
I was trying to make my website look like the 1&1 web examples and upon clicking on some samples i noticed at the very bottom the pages
stated that the website was designed using a INTUIT Website Template. I goggled INTUIT and I set up an account with them. I am now able to edit and customize
my website with no problem.. I also think it is false advertisement to put websites on 1&1 ut the templates are not from 1&1 , they are from INTUIT.

click the link below and see for yourself. Look at the samples show on the 1 & 1 page and scroll to the bottom and you will see it says the website was created using an INTUIT template.
    http://order.1and1.com/sitedesign?__lf=Static&linkOrigin=&linkId=hd.nav.sitedesignservice

I have left 1 and 1 and signed up with INTUIT and its much better! way easier. a little more but its worth it.

During the 30 day trial period I was unable to reach anyone to opt out of the service . I knew I could not do business with one and one because the customer service was terrible and they were totally desperate to keep pulling money from any bank account. I was sent from department to department and when I did finally talk to someone I was laughed at when I told them I would not be using their service. So I’m stuck. Wish I read these reviews before I signed up with these pirates !!!

TWICE over the past two days, I have lost all but one page of my entire website on 1and1. This happened when I touched the “Save” key in Website Builder. This first happened yesterday after making more than THREE HOURS of revisions. It took nearly 24 hours for my website to be restored online – excluding the revisions I made yesterday. Today THE SAME THING happened AGAIN when I tried to “Save” two hours of revisions. A technical support person told me this is due to a problem with the 1and1 server.
This glitch has cost me more than six hours of business time, irritated one of my most loyal associates, and my customer base has not been able to view my site for two days – at my busiest tim of my consulting practice!!! I am frustrated, angry, and want to cancel my service.
I would like an explanation of how this could happen twice in two days. I would also like to know I can be compensated for this extraordinary inconvenience to me and my business.
I want this issue corrected IMMEDIATELY.
Please contact me directly at 206-325-4595. My email address is LonLL@aol.com.

1and1.com is the biggest rip-off I have encountered on the internet. they sold me the contract telling me that I had a 90 day cancellation/evaluation period. I tried to cancel after 30 days to no avail, in fact I had to terminate my card in order to get them to stop taking money out.
Now six months later they contact me, said that I did nothing to cancel and sent me to a collections agency. These people are the worst rip-off on the web. Since posting this complaint I realize that this must be their typical mode of operation. They are crooks!
